01Technical Observations and Further Insights
All notes in \S are visual only from the supplied photographs; no physical examination, imaging or analytical testing has been undertaken. Reduced specular reflection improves legibility of mid-tones, reveals modelling in heads and hands, and makes the varnish texture across the dark passages easier to read. Central passage (Christ and St.\ John) .

02Frame and Verso
The painting sits in a gilt moulded frame of Louis-XVI revival type with a narrow, pale linen slip at the sight (see Fig. From photographs alone the frame appears to be composition ("compo") ornament over a timber core, finished in metal or gold leaf; whether water- or oil-gilded cannot be determined from images. The profile (from sight outwards) reads as: fine torus bead, shallow cavetto, plain frieze, ribbon-and-stick torus, then an ogee outer member.

03Close-up evidence of handling \ ageing mechanisms
The uniform, high-gloss surface and fine age crackle are evident; bright streaks are varnish glare rather than losses. A fine, closed polygonal crack network runs across mid-tones and darks. Crack edges appear rounded/filled, reading as inactive at photo scale.
